Florida Authorities On The Hunt For Mall Shooter

Police are on the hunt for a man who they say shot and killed another man that he targeted at a Florida shopping mall just two days before Christmas.

According to the Ocala Police Department, Albert Shell Jr., 39, is wanted for the premeditated first-degree murder of David Nathaniel Barron, 40, and the attempted premeditated first-degree murder of another woman at the mall. The police department is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.

“We’re offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information on the location of Albert Shell Jr. that leads to his arrest. He has a warrant for premeditated first-degree murder and attempted premeditated first-degree murder during the deadly shooting at the Paddock Mall,” Ocala Police Department wrote on X.

Ocala Police Department Chief Mike Balken told a press conference that Shell Jr. shot his dead victim multiple times in a common area at Paddock Mall, 80 miles northwest of Orlando. Officers responded at the scene and found the 40-year-old dead. Responding officers also found the suspect’s second victim with a gunshot wound to the leg at the scene. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ocala police also revealed that other people in the mall suffered injuries during the shooting. One person suffered with chest pain and another had a broken arm.

Surveillance footage taken inside the mall showed shoppers fleeing for cover when the suspect opened fire.

Authorities are also looking for a man who they sat tampered with crucial evidence at the crime scene.

“This person tampered with crucial evidence by taking the shooter’s red hat from the crime scene at the Paddock Mall. That hat may contain valuable DNA evidence,” Ocala Police wrote on X.

The mall immediately announced it would remain closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
