Former Trump Official Dies After Being Shot

A former White House official has died after carjackers fatally shot him in Washington, D.C,

Mike Gill, a former Trump administration official, reportedly died on Monday after being shot during a violent carjacking spree in Washington, D.C. His wife, Kristina Gill, announced the heart-breaking news in a statement.

“It is with profound sadness that I wish to inform the community of the passing of my husband, Mike Gill,” Kristina said. “His sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled. In this time of grief, we are grateful for the outpouring of love and community, and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out to offer condolences and assistance.”

Fox5 News reports that Gill had previously worked as chief of staff of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission under President Trump and has recently served as senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council.

In a statement released by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Gill was sitting in his parked vehicle on Monday afternoon when the suspected gunman got into the car and shot him. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The MPD also reports that Gill was receiving treatment for his life-threatening injuries at the time of the police report.

The suspect, identified as Artell Cunningham, 28, allegedly attempted to carjack another individual but was unsuccessful. Cunningham later approached a man and woman and demanded their keys. According to Breitbart News, he allegedly shot the man, Alberto Vasquez, Jr., who was transported to the hospital where he died.

According to Daily Mail, Cunningham committed more crimes that same day, including bashing a taxi driver in the head with his gun and stealing his car. He also shot through the windshield of a Maryland State Police trooper’s car and sprayed a D.C. officer’s car with bullets.

The outlet also reports that the New Carrollton Police Department tracked the stolen car to a nearby laundromat, where the suspect was fatally shot by the officers. He later died in the hospital.

Following Gill’s demise, Trump described Gill as wonderful and brilliant in a Truth Social post on Sunday.

“Wonderful and brilliant Mike Gill, a highly respected member of the Trump administration, was ruthlessly and viciously shot in the head during a carjack in Washington, D.C. He was a SPECIAL PERSON, “Trump wrote. “His family and friends are devastated. The Federal Government must take over D.C.”
