GOP Lawmaker Says Only This Trump Pick Can Be Speaker
The race for the next Speaker of the House Representative could come to an end in the next few days with House Republicans’ nomination of President Donald Trump’s candidate, according to Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC).
Bishop suggested that the House GOP’s struggle to consolidate behind one Republican candidate could come to an end with Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-OH) nomination as speaker. Bishop told Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM that he believes Jordan is the only House Republican who gets the 217 votes needed to become speaker.
I’m optimistic that this will be the week we’ll get it fixed. @Jim_Jordan needs to be the next Speaker.

“It’s been an important evolution within the Republican Conference,” Bishop told host Matt Boyle. “Jim Jordan receiving the nomination of the Republican Party is an important breakthrough. It has been apparent to me for some time, and I think it is slowly resolving into clarity for everybody that Jim Jordan of Ohio — everybody knows him across the country, been a tremendous warrior for conservative causes — he is the person who can bring together … sort of a fusion candidate to bring together the interests and the various pieces of the Republican Conference that have been that have had a hard time getting together and deciding a path forward”
A Jordan Speakership could represent a watershed for the United States Congress. Not just or even most importantly because Jim is a genuine conservative, but because he will epitomize a dramatic move away from the politics of drift, status quo, and fiddling while Rome burns.

Jordan, who gained Trump’s endorsement when he announced his desire to wield the House gavel, won the Republican nomination for speaker following a behind-closed-door vote held by House Republicans. House Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) dropped out of the race after initially beating Jordan to become nominee. Scalise was, however, forced to quit the race after some House Republicans refused to back him in the race.
Dan Bishop: “The person who can get to 217 is Jim Jordan."

Former House Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) says he’s confident that Jordan can scale through and win the Republican nomination.
“I don’t see a problem with him not getting there,” McCarthy said. “I think look, people have been here a long time. We’ve now elected a speaker designee and I think people can go home and be with their family and come back. He will be able to talk to those dozen we’ll be able to get there. Steve [Scalise] only had 110. 155 [Jordan’s vote] is a lot more than 110.”
