Kate Beckinsale Mourns The Loss Of Her Stepfather
Kate Beckinsale announced the death of her stepfather, Battersby, via Instagram on Tuesday. Beckinsale released a statement confirming his death, noting that he passed away at the age of 87 after a brief illness.
“It is with great sorrow that the family of film and television director Roy Battersby announce the news of his recent death after a brief period of illness,” the statement began. “He passed away peacefully on 10 January 2024 in Los Angeles, surrounded by family, aged 87. Funeral will be held in London, details to follow.”
According to Daily Caller, the famous actress also shared a video and gallery of photographs of Battersby, who was married to her mother, Judy Loe, alongside a heartfelt caption.
“I have no words yet,” the actress captioned the emotional post. “Thank you @katebeckinsale_slovakia2 for making this beautiful thing. I fought for you with everything I had. Oh Roy I am so sorry I lost.”
The gallery included images of Beckinsale sharing a series of sweet moments with her stepfather, as well as her mom and other loved ones. The video clip also showed Battersby opening up about his life growing up in the UK during World War II.
Before his demise, Battersby directed several British TV series and movies, including Play for Today, Couples, No Excuses, and Between the Lines. His last directing credit was a 2006 episode of the show A Touch of Frost.
Beckinsale’s announcement of Battersby’s demise comes after she headed to the hospital from the Golden Globes on Jan 7 to be at Battersby’s bedside. She later posted photos of herself and her family sitting around a hospital bed while she was still dressed in her silver gown from the awards ceremony.
She captioned the image, “Golden Globes 2024 start to end.”
Last month, the actress asked her followers on social media to send healing energy to Battersby. “We need a miracle,” she wrote.
“This week has taken an even scarier turn involving the health of my beloved stepdad, Roy, and we need every tiny scrap of love and magic in the hope he pulls through.”
