Trump Campaign Wants GOP To Cancel Remaining Primary Debates

Former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has urged the GOP to cancel the remaining 2024 Republican primary debates following this week’s “boring and inconsequential” debate.

Trump campaign manager Chris LaCivita sent out a post on X social media —formally Twitter— asking the Republican National Committee (RNC) to cancel all future 2024 primary debates and support the former president.

“Tonight’s GOP debate was as boring and inconsequential as the first debate, and nothing that was said will change the dynamics of the primary contest being dominated by President Trump,” LaCivita wrote. “The RNC should immediately put an end to any further primary debates so we can train our fire on Crooked Joe Biden and quit wasting time and money that could be going to evicting Biden from the White House.”

LaCivita’s comments came after the GOP held its second primary debate on Wednesday night. Trump has declined to attend any of the debates, with the former president maintaining that “it’s sort of foolish” to take the debate stage.

“I feel it’s sort of foolish to be doing it,” Trump said. “I think it could be stupid—it could be a stupid thing to do. I don’t mind doing them. I like to do them—I enjoy them actually and I think they’re a good thing. But when you’re leading somebody by 50 or 60 points, I think doing it might be foolish.”

Trump maintained his dominance in the GO primary field, with several polls showing he won Wednesday night’s debate despite not being on the debate stage.

According to a snap poll conducted by Daily Mail, Trump emerged as the debate winner, earning 27% of the votes. Vivek Ramaswamy trailed Trump by just one point, coming in second with 26% of the vote. However, Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis was declared the most ‘presidential’ and the most ‘competent’ of the candidates who took the stage.
